Embrace the Quiet
Updated: Apr 4, 2022
When you are struggling for general or content inspiration. Retreat within ❤️
I used to play podcasts every single time I showered, drove or walked anywhere. I would meditate while getting dressed. I would read 1-2 pages of a book and then move on. Writing was done on family road trips, make up was finished at stop lights and, breath work was only done for half a session before - enough, move on, do the work now!
Everything was layered on top of each other. Every act of support for my mindset was (I now realise) hurried. And there was very little space for it even though it is something that I advocate for constantly.
And I loved it like that - for a long time. But it wasn’t sustainable.
Eventually, I started to feel contracted even when everything filling my day was exactly what I wanted. And as a result, I felt stuck in my creative support process and unable to pour from my cup when it came time to show up online.
The issue was that the manner in which I was embracing things wasn’t in fact nourishing or enriching anymore. It was instead wrapped in masculine energy with a super big strangling bow on top.
Side note - I still multi task, in fact, especially around the kids I would truly be lost without it. Just today I journaled while the kids squabbled around me, I did yoga while one child yelled at me every time I deviated from what the on screen instructor did, I meditated while the same child made a home on my lap and am currently writing whilst my office is under siege by an army of barbies and lol dolls.
Multi tasking is ESSENTIAL if you want to get things done. But. I don’t think it should always be your default.
And it took me the longest time to start to be ok with this. To start to NOT purposefully do all the things all the time. To embrace the silence and quiet and empty space where required and when it was in fact available.
Who else has been or is addicted to multi tasking to their own detriment?
❤
