Creators vs The Tech Savvy

You know how some people are 100% creators and others are 100% tech oriented?

I've always had my foot in both the tech and creative worlds.

For as long as I can remember, people told me that I was creative, had the eye and was a born artist.

I won local art awards, was always top of the class, had 2 pieces out of a set of 4 of my final studio art pieces stolen after being graded (who the fuck does that?!? Steal all 4 if you must, don't leave me with an incomplete set!) and had to give a stern talking to my school administration when they didn't want to give back a piece that they had borrowed for a set period of time. I once even received a guidance counsellor print out telling me that the outcome of my 'what job should I do' interview - was that I should be an artist. Funny thing is, I never went to any such interview.

At the same time tho, I was told that you can never make money as an artist, that it's an unreliable profession, that no one ACTUALLY goes off and becomes an artist after school and that I should find something more responsible to do.

And so I listened to this.

But I didn't want to settle for average. This is why I decided that instead of doing anything that came naturally to me, I first pursued becoming a doctor ... and then a jet pilot (!). I extended my schooling by a year so that I could double down on courses and do Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Maths etc. ... whilst still doing the actual fun stuff like Art and Media.

In the end, I went for my jet pilot interviews and it turned out that after slugging away and throwing aside my natural tendencies - I am a few centimetres too short to become a jet pilot.

Lol.

I even went to the chiropractor and went on something called the rack (yes, it's real and has modern day uses) to be stretched out prior to the medical/height checks - but to no avail.

It was not meant to be.

And it was never what I REALLY wanted to do so I didn't even bother going back and looking at alternate positions in the Airforce.

Secondary to my creative inclinations, I was also and have always been very tech savvy. Which is not always common amongst creatives - and can often result in massive blocks that are then unconsciously or otherwise leant on and blamed for destinies not being met.

As a teen, whenever our home computer broke down, had random warnings or errors - I was usually the one to fix it. Without any prompting, training or guidance. I always loved a good problem to solve. But I never directly pursued a career in this or paid much attention or heed to IT at school because "I was an artist" because I was blonde, because I was a girl, because I wasn't meant to work on tech stuff, because that wasn't the story I had been told.

And so I listened to this.

In the end, tho ... I invariably ended up taking on the more creative elements of each job - styling merchandise, planning out aesthetics, always being a stickler for formatting and visuals.

I also ended up sorting out the tech stuff at every one of my jobs too.

When I was working in the financial/retirement industry a good part of my job became reading and fixing system coding that calculated complex benefits for a massive corporate fund. I didn't have any training with regards to this - I was completely self taught ... and I enjoyed it.

These aspects of who I am are a big part of the reason why I ended up in my current career in SEO/Growth and a huge part of why I feel so at home on social media.

So - what's my point?

My point is that everything will come full circle and you will always head back toward the path you were born for. And even if you don't actively pursue it, you will still end up picking up ghost versions of it along the way.

But you won't be completely happy until you are completely back in your element. It's the same with relationships I think - you CAN make it work with anyone but it will be like flying with the right person ... you CAN make it work with any career, job or time filler but your soul will soar if you instead just do what you were destined for.

These days, I create, I design, I write, I feel my heart fill up. I read strategy, resolve drama, take care of the tech, I feel on fire. And my world expands day by day.

There is actually no better feeling than a multi layer life that addresses everything you were born to do and allows you the freedom to continue the evolution of that journey.
