7 Ways to Not Show Up When Sick

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

Our household has been struck down with the spicy flu. And it has been enduring.

I contend with brain fog, exhaustion, body aches and migraines regularly with my autoimmune disorder, EBV and a few other things but this has certainly trumped it all.

So, how do you show up in your business or passion project when in an unwell state such as this?

Maybe you don't. I've been seeing a number of posts lately talking about how the body is it's own healing machine and that in theory, you shouldn't ever be sick. You will however become sick when you aren't listening to your body and respecting what it needs or bombarding it with things to it's detriment. Sometimes that can be in the form of not giving yourself the rest and self care you need. Eventually your body throws up it's metaphorical hands and says - if you won't stop, I'll make you stop.

Your first port of call should always be taking care of yourself. Not your business - unless that would in fact immediately effect your survival with respect to food on the table for your family and a roof over your heads.

Prioritise your healing above whatever else your ego says 'needs' to be done.

However. If you do find yourself bored, restless and itching to do something, anything, while you recover, here are some ways to NOT show up in a perfectly programmed entrepreneur manner but still be present in your business in the meantime:

  1. Post relevant content from your archives: Old blog posts, old interviews, old podcast episodes etc. This will increase traffic to your website and eye balls on your website content which Google loves and, allows you to provide content without expending energy

  2. Share other people's content. If you tag them in, they might then reshare it which can then result in increased traffic in your space

  3. Lean on your support people and, if you have a team, get them to do social takeovers

  4. Roll out preprepared graphics for evergreen promotions

  5. Choose to gift yourself grace and just jot down any musings, content ideas, prompts etc. that pop up in your consciousness during this time and instead use them when you are feeling better

  6. Do a social media blackout. You won't kill your momentum with the algorithm by being offline for 3-7 days (assuming you do post interesting stuff as a standard rule) Sometimes this can even create intrigue and curiosity

  7. Lastly and only if it would really float your boat, create from flow without expectation and documenting whatever you are experiencing (e.g. this blog post)

And with all things - only do what feels flow based, what comes from feminine energy during this time and what feels expansive with whatever energy you do have.

P.S.
